From 21 to 24 October, Natalia Levshina from Radboud University will conduct a statistics masterclass covering Bayesian statistics with a focus on language data. The event includes both theoretical and practical sessions.
There will be two two-hour sessions every day (except on Tuesday, when only the morning session is held) from 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00. The first sessions are theoretical and are held in the hybrid form on Zoom. The afternoon sessions are practical and involve using the R statistics software and solving sample tasks. The practical part requires in-person participation. The number of participants on location is limited. Therefore, we ask you to register well in advance.
Topics covered each day:
Monday (Ülikooli 18–139) Bayesian basic knowledge
Tuesday (Ülikooli 18–139) Bayesian model selection
Wednesday (Ülikooli 18–139) Bayesian generalised linear models
Thursday (Jakobi 2–103) Visualisation, interpretation and reporting of Bayesian models. Discussion of potential applications.

Natalia Levshina is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Language Studies at Radboud University. She is the author of How to Do Linguistics with R.
Her research concerns communicative efficiency and its impact on grammar and lexicon in the long run. She has expertise in working with large corpora, typology, data visualisation, machine learning, and frequentist and Bayesian generalised linear mixed models.
Natalia also documents her linguistic findings about politics, gender and AI in her popular science blog Text Grinder.
Natalia Levshina's visit is taking place thanks to the the MEDAL project.
