The special issue of the Journal of Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics, titled "Approaches to Language Planning," focuses on both the current state of language planning in Estonia and its relevance beyond the country's borders.
The primary aim of this special issue is twofold. On one hand, it aims to introduce research on language planning, language specialists, and broader societal attitudes and perceptions related to language in Estonia and other regions. On the other hand, it includes a collection of studies focusing on topics that are essential for making informed decisions in the field of language planning.
An excerpt from the foreword:
"Language planning is a timely topic in Estonia and beyond. On the one hand, standardised languages have long traditions in Europe; on the other hand, standard languages are continuously influenced by globalisation, media and social media, language change, as well as language ideologies and language attitudes."
This special issue is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of J. V. Veski's birth.
