Professor Karl Pajusalu wins the Latvian and Estonian Language Promotion Award

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže announced the winner of the Latvian and Estonian Language Promotion Award in Cēsis, Latvia on July 5th. Awarded for the 15th time, this year’s winner is Karl Pajusalu, Professor of History and Dialects of Estonian Language at the University of Tartu.

Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Pajusalu was recognised for his long-term work in advancing cooperation between the linguists of Estonia and Latvia, and contributing to the research of the Estonian and Livonian language both in Estonia and Latvia.

“Estonia and Latvia are close friends and allies. This is symbolised by the 105th anniversary of our common fight against the Landeswehr forces right here in Cēsis, which we celebrated a couple of weeks ago,” Tsahkna said at the presentation ceremony.
