The University of Tartu language award 2024 is given for contribution to preserving and developing Finno-Ugric languages through creating a digital translation engine.

In the week leading to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the University of Tartu announced the recipients of the university's contribution to society award, research award and language award, and the teaching staff of the year award.

On 21 February at 14, university members were invited to the ceremony and concert dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the university’s assembly hall.

The National Research Awards Committee has approved the following researchers from the University of Tartu as nominees for this year’s research awards.

Today, on 21 November, at 16:00, Rector Toomas Asser presented the university’s honorary decorations at the ceremony in the assembly hall. 

On 25 October, the University of Tartu senate decided to award the University of Tartu Grand Medal to Professor of International Business Urmas Varblane. Also, the recipients of the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, Medal, Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” have been announced.

Until 31 October, nominations can be submitted for the “Contribution to Estonian National Identity” award.

Nominations can be submitted via the web form until 20 September.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže announced the winner of the Latvian and Estonian Language Promotion Award in Cēsis, Latvia on July 5th.

Ilona Tragel was elected as the Professor of Language Awareness and Estonian Language Teaching, and Virve Vihman was promoted to the position of Professor of Psycholinguistics.
