Students in the international master's programme Estonian and Finno-Ugric Languages have been eagerly studying Estonian. Cody Michael Stevens from USA wrote in Estonian about why he decided to learn Estonian.

Read the original text in Estonian here. The translation of Cody's story:

"I thought that learning Estonian would be interesting because of the way it sounds. This language is very special and different compared to many other languages. I heard Estonian for the first time when I came to Estonia, and it stuck with me.

Originally, I came to Estonia to study German language and literature. I completed that program but decided to stay because I started to really like the Estonian language and culture, and I felt like this was a language I wanted to learn more about.

I chose the University of Tartu because it is one of the best places to study in Estonia. Tartu is a beautiful city, and it is a good place to study. I am happy that I decided to stay here and learn Estonian. Every new word I learn helps me understand Estonia and local life here better."
